Seriously, it’s too confusing that Kia is making nice cars, has the GT coming out which could be amazing but is still Kia. My highschool parking lot in 05 was nothing but old Tauruses, Cavaliers and KIAs. Trunk rattling, scuffed paint, missing hub cap, burning oil Kias.

Not..... THIS

Kinja'd!!!

Also later I plan to do a breakdown of everything that will not convey with the production model from the concept. Something that really irks me quite a bit.

Kia is the new Hyundai

which is the new Honda

who is the new Toyota

Because while european companies are rapidly moving downmarket, asian companies are rapidly moving upmarket.

Every time I see an old Sephia like that one, the dash is peeling upward from the bottom of the windshield or separating from the instrument panel. I don’t know what they made those dashes out of, but I think it’s sentient and trying to escape.

Don’t forget to use the Kia Novo Concept as well since the production vehicle is a mix of both that and the original GT Sedan Concept. Both had suicide doors though...where are my doors, bitches?!

European companies are moving downmarket? Are you referring to the FWD-based new Mercs? Those have been available for 2 decades, just were never offered in the US. They’re merely expanding their range, which (to me) is not the same as moving downmarket. You still get an expensive-for-the-size vehicle that’s nicer than average.

Buick LeSabre dash pads do the same thing after 15 years.

Those beat down Kias were all less than 5 years old too.

I have a coworker who has been somehow been nursing along an old Sephia like that one as his DD for years. He finally bought a new car (kid #3 just got here so Odyssey time), and was asking me for advice on how to sell it. My immediate reaction was scrap yard, but surprisingly people are willing to pay upwards of $1000 for these things. I think the modern Kia reputation has rubbed off on the market for old garbage Kia’s since people have short memories.

They’re fitting market segments that weren’t previously being met by a luxury marque. The new BMW 2 series MPV, CLA, the Jaguar XE, BMW i3. Plus all the compact SUVs now, like the Q3 or X3. Their expansion downward is a lot stronger than their expansion upward or middling out.
